Tonight, during my nightly Sex and the City rerun, I saw an old friend, Lovette George. Friend might be a big word but Lovette was an actress who was often in shows at Lincoln Center Theater. She made jewelry and would spend many nights just sitting with me chatting while I was the night receptionist there. She was always funny and really kind. We talked about how there were just not enough good men. We gossiped about actors (and she never made me weird when I asked for dish on some of her actor friends).
A few years ago she passed away from ovarian cancer at 44 years old.
Lovette was in just one scene of this episode. It's the episode where Carrie finds out that Big and Natasha got married, a moment that I have had myself. It's called Attack of the Five Foot Ten Woman. Lovette is the woman at the desk of the charity auction. She tells Carrie that Natasha will not be attending the event.
I was surprised how emotional I became seeing her. I was just sort of thrown. It really hit me what a loss we all experienced when she passed away. I just saw her smile and kind of lost it.
I've been hearing about this fundraiser called Stand Up to Cancer that is airing on Friday. I'm not saying that giving some money at this fundraiser is enough but it's a start.
(P.S. My friend, Nicki, wrote a great story for the Stand Up to Cancer website. It is really moving so check it out.)
I remember this woman! I CANNOT believe she died. FUck, man. Just....fuck.
Why?????????
