I'm Back! Come And See Me ...

I am completely jetlagged! Many stories to tell. I will probably blog about them later.

For now, I wanted to let y'all know that my short, The Birthday Girl, will be shown this Friday at The Oasis at Weeksville Society in Bed Stuy (Brooklyn that is)! It is an outdoor screening series. I hear it is beautiful and I am excited! So come on by. I am doing a Q and A with the other ladies whose short films are featured.

This explains everything!

Why in the world as a single gal am I living in New York?! Man, this map is a wakeup call. Here I am in LA visiting friends and it is looking really appealing to me, especially after looking at this map. The West Coast in general is the place to be for a single gal. Driving lessons here I come!

Sun & Fun!!!

Tomorrow night I am going on a much, much needed vacation. I probably will not write too many entries in the next few weeks. Or I might. Who knows? I just figured I'd update you.

I am going to LA to visit some friends and then I am off to HAWAII for a wedding! I am watching a borrowed copy of Blue Crush while I write this and procrastinate packing. As I watch it, I have three thoughts:

1. It is nice to see Kate Bosworth with some meat on her bones.
2. Michelle Rodriguez's character has such a crush on Kate's Bosworth's character! She gets angry at her in that way you get angry at a person you like. I'm just throwing it out there.
3. Kate Bosworth has one green eye and one brown one.

Make that four thoughts:

4. I wish the guy did not convince her to surf in the big contest. I wish she did it on her own.

I had bigger, deeper thoughts about the film but I had them the first time I saw it. This time I just want the scenery. I can not wait to get to Hawaii! I bought the books and I am ready! I am dying for all of the water sports, bring them on. The cute guys won't hurt either.

Two random thoughts that came up this week:

Random Thought #1:
Ariel Gore wrote this bit that I thought about this morning. I had a few ideas for posts I wanted to write and some stories as well. I told some people and I kind of got tired of them. They just lost their umph. After reading this, I have a better understanding of why:

"First off, a story just doesn't like being talked about. The more often you describe the plot of your novel-in-progress to a friend over cocktails, the less likely it will ever get written down. You'll dilute it, scatter the good bits, get tired of hearing the same scene. Hell, you've told it enough times, why bother writing it at all?"

Random Thought #2:
I am taking a break from reading other people's blogs. I am taking a break from all communication that is not in some way truly interpersonal. I can not get away from email but am truly making an effort to have a few more flesh and blood interactions in my life. I need them.

Jill Scott is so cute

I have no real reason to post this. I just think this picture of her is cute.

Oh, I do have a reason to post this. Jill is going to be in the new Anthony Minghella movie. It is based on a series of books that I always pass by at the bookstore but have never picked up, The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I am intrigued! I am so excited for more films to take place throughout Africa. I am even more excited for a film that is not about war or genocide. Personally, I am excited to find a new fun book to read.

So is the challenge that she is "traditionally built" (aka a big girl) or is the challenge playing a lead role in such a big film? What are they talking about?

I, like everyone else, put in my two cents about Sicko. They put up my entry in the middle of a flurry of pieces they are doing about Michael Moore. There was also a live chat yesterday that you should check out. I find the Moore/CNN smackdown fascinating.

Celebrity Weddings

With all of this coverage of Eva Longoria and Tony Parker's wedding, I can not help but wonder if they really know all of these celebrities. I know famous people hang out with famous people but come on! I am supposed to believe that none of this is about publicity.

It happened

I had a completely new experience. On the long train ride home from the Upper East Side, I was reading this section:

I believe this - I believe that we are in the most fantastic pliable medium time, and yet I sometimes find myself unable to convince myself that it is possible for anything new and different to happen in a human life. It's all same old, same old.

And then I came home and had a new experience. It is silly but here it goes.

I watch Sex and the City every night at 11pm. It has taken over from Charlie Rose as my last show of the night. I thought I had seen every single episode. Then I saw one I never had. I kept waiting for the familiar section but it never came. It was entirely new. The episode was entitled "The Freak Show" from Season 2. I googled it. So there it is. A new experience happened when I was least expecting it.

By the way, I could not be more excited about the Sex And The City movie. I knew it wouldn't end.

I knew Fergie bothered me

The 32-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer is the first global star to consent to product placement in her songs - agreeing to include the provocative clothing line Candie's in her lyrics.

While other artists routinely drop in name brands into their songs or even accept fees to show products in videos, the musician born Stacy Ann Ferguson, who once ripped it up as a child star on "Kids Incorporated," is making history by blurring the lines between jingle and pop song.

Under the deal with Candie's, a skimpy, teen-oriented clothing line, Fergie will be appearing in TV advertisements and also allowing Candie's "style advisers" to dress up fans at her shows. On the Candie's Web site (where the Fergie agenda is endorsed, noting "It's all about the flossy, flossy"), a video of the Californian singer appears prominently on what they call "C-Tube."

While Fergie was on tour last week, her advisers said such product placement marked the future of music.

If this is the future of music, I am going to shoot myself.  It's bad enough that we have to deal with product placement in movies.  I have tolerance for that because a lot of people could not make their films without it.  Songs is just a bit too far.  Just watching Jay Z's Show Me What You Got car commercial ... I mean video ... really irritated me.  This is too far.
