This poster has fascinated me for a while now. I have seen it all over Chelsea, a neighborhood in New York with a large gay male population. They have been really promoting this film to the gay community and I am unclear if it is because it is a swimming movie with a lot of half naked men or if there is a gay-themed storyline in the film. Not sure.
At the same time, the film is also being heavily promoted in largely black communities. I get why they are doing that. It stars Terrence Howard and Bernie Mac so there will already be a decent turnout for that reason alone. Time will tell how successful this campaign is. I am not sure I am going to see Pride. It looks a bit too cheesy for the big screen. I might have to Netflix it.
Oh girl...it's not even worth taking up space on your Netflix queue. I saw a preview for it. It's a movie we've seen a MILLION times before and it sounds horribly written. "ON YOUR MARK!" Terrence says as one glycerin tear glides down his face.

Netflix sounds about right. I saw this trailer a few months ago and thought a black swim team was an interesting topic...still do. A black hockey team would be intriguing as well. I think cheesy's a good description. I see something like this as an after school special. I use to LOVE after school specials. Do they still do those?

My first thought when I saw this poster? Honestly?
"PRIDE? More like GAY PRIDE."
I'd watch it if it came on TV, but I can't see myself going to the theater to check it out.

That campaign has perplexed me too. I would stare at the poster and the homoerotic imagery was confusing. Come to find out it is really a very positive movie about a black swim team! Go figure since it wasn't obvious from the visual advertising. Not sure who created that poster but if no one has has told you ... it sux! Big time. Had I not seen the trailer I would not know what the moive was about.
