Listen to an interview with him on Hammer Museum’s podcasts. Danger Mouse is a DJ/producer who did the second Gorillaz album, is half of Gnarles Barkley and has done a bunch of other stuff. I find DJs and Producers so interesting. The amount of creativity it requires is pretty mind blowing. I adore the new Gnarles Barkley (As does everyone. It makes me so sad that I walk into Banana Republics and it is playing. I feel the same way about Corinne Bailey Rae. When I was in South Africa, she was huge there. I felt so special. I thought I was going to introduce her to the US. Then I got back to Brooklyn and her face was on the side of every building in Crown Heights. Geez, I'm so mainstream.) Danger Mouse gains so much inspiration from so many different things and hearing him talk about it is pretty interesting. I love hearing people talk about their craft. Plus I love that Danger Mouse can not read or write music.
I love the Hammer Museum’s podcasts because they are have great talks with fascinating artists. They are more conversations with different folks. Some great past ones are Miranda July & George Saunders, David Foster Wallace, Stacyanne Chin & Jeff Chang.
I recently went to The Hammer Museum when I was visiting my friends, Sharon & Rey. The museum itself is kind if mediocre. That was sort of disappointing. But whoever curates their speaker series ROCKS!
Yeah, DangerMouse is dope. I feel you, when something that you were hip to a long time ago suddenly becomes a commercial success it makes you feel weird.

You shouldn't be disappointed that you're listening to something that's "mainstream". You should pat yourself on the back because you're ahead of the curve and/or you didn't need the hype machine's help to like someone's stuff.
Personally, I'm a big Cee-Lo fan, so I was drawn to this as soon as I heard that he was involved, but after listening to the album, I think I really want to hear The Gray Album. Like, now.

I downloaded it and it is AMAZING! You can get it here: http://www.illegal-art.org/audio/grey.html
You need Bit Torrent to get it. You have to love Jay Z because it is more Jay Z than The Beatles but since I do, I adore it.
