For those of you concerned about my television intake, this one is for you.
I get home last night all ready to watch some Prison Break and some Everwood. I went to the gym during my lunch hour so that I did not have to feel guilty about not going that night. I made a big dinner and poured myself a glass of wine. I go to turn on my television and it happened. The image was frozen!
I reboot the cable box the way I was taught and the screen just goes blue and the number 79 appears on my cable box. I keep trying to reboot and I get a message that says that "advanced" capabilities were not available. I was unaware that watching television was an "advanced" capability. I reach for my phone and remember that my internet, my phone line and my cable are all connected. When one of them doesn't work, none of them do!
So I go out to my garden to call Cablevision. Obviously I was not the only person who had this idea because I am put on hold for a pretty damn long time. I go upstairs and knock on my neighbors' door. Turns out they have Cabelvision too and are out.
At this point it is about 8:30pm and Prison Break is almost over. I am in my pajamas so it makes no sense to try to hop in a cab and go to a friend's house. So, I gulp my glass of wine and mope ... initially.
Then I remember that there is a treatment that I have been meaning to write. I had written most of the bits and pieces of it in my journal but had not made a real attempt to really type it out. I have thing where I write things in my journal because it makes them less "real" somehow. Then when I want to type it out and really try to make it something, it takes forever for me to motivate to do it even though the bulk of it is already written! So last night I typed it out (and I backed up my computer, something I have not done is ages). In some places, it's a mess. In some places it's not but I finally did it.
This afternoon a friend of mine sent me a gift via email. Apparently now you can buy episodes of Prison Break via iTunes for $1.99 per episode. Last night's episode was sitting in my email box waiting for me. Thanks!
I hope you insisted on getting some free movie channels as compensation.
Apparently, my friend Tom does it all the time.
We tried it for the 1st time the other day. The boudoir cable box was not allowing us to order "IN DEMAND" movies. And, at 1 point the cable box just shut off and re-set itself.
We called and asked for compensation. They gave us all of the HBO channels for the next month for FREE. With the exception of HBO IN DEMAND.
Tom told me that next time, we have to insist on the "IN DEMAND" channel.

You should have come over in your pajamas! You read what I was watching, you could have totally taken over my TV.

Great story tuck! I am torn because I saw how hot that episode was the next day at work. But sometimes its nice to the things that TV allows you to avoid doing- and almost everyone I know has the journal habit. I look at it this way- fearing ones own success is atleast an alternative to being a cocky A-hole no? You just reinspired me to get to the four things I have been avoiding by watching the tube, drinking with my neighbors and taking extra yoga classes to fill the time between end of work and sleep.
