    Celebrity Sightings

    • Christina Applegate and Chole Sevigny
      at the BWE 100th episode party. They are both so blonde. That color blonde that does not exist in real life but only with chemical enhancement. They're beautiful though.
    • Melba Moore
      in the airport in Nairobi, Kenya! We smiled at each other over Nescafe (aka coffee).
    • Parker Posey
      at Murray's Bagels. She looked really punk rock.
    • Jessica Lange and Sam Shephard
      at A History of Violence at Cinema Village. They were so cute and followed us everywhere from the movies to Cedar Tavern and back to the movies. They probably thought we were following them.
    • Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kodjoe
      pushing their baby down 13th Street. I was having a meeting at Cosi around the corner from my overcrowded office. I looked out the window and there they were. They stopped in front of my window and were doing the, who should take the baby conversation. I was trying to listen to the person talking to me but I could not and she was not the type of person who would understand my distraction by these celebs. They are both really attractive but almost too much so. His sneakers were new. His jeans were new. It was weird. I like imperfection.

      running on 18th Street. I realized that I've seen him many times before and just did not realize it. He was smaller than I thought he's be but I guess most people are.
    • Patti Smith
      which was not a big deal to me but my friend Marina apparently sees her all the time. This was her fourth sighting. I said she should say something like, "I see you everywhere. We should hang out." Marina wouldn't take the bait.
    • Leonardo DiCaprio
      with Isha on our way to the PATH station on 9th Street and 6th Ave. He is very tall but as my friend says, one cheeseburger away from being fat. His bodyguard "subtely" was wearing a jogging suit next to him. I guess they exercise together. He wasn't so hot to me but another girl flipped out when she saw him so what do I know.
    • Sam Rockwell and Liev Schreiber
      on New Year's Eve but you gotta buy me a few drinks to hear that story.
    • John Turturro
      in Union Square looking tall and handsome. I’ve always had a strange little crush on him.

    A Comment

    Amidst the flurry of spam that comes to my account, I got the following comment on my site about a blog I wrote entitled, The White Guy in '04:

    "black women WHO DATE WHITE MEN AE WHORES THEY DO IT TO GET MONEY AND JOBS IF I CATCH A WHITE GUY NEAR MY GIRL HES GONNA GET BEAT UP. GO READ ABOUT SLAVERY"

    I get emails like this every once in a while. Usually hateful emails like this don't bother me that much but for some reason it urked me today. I don't keep most of the comments up because I don't want to keep the negativity on my site but I wanted to give you guys something to chew on this cold, cold Wednesday afternoon.

    I've noticed that people who do these searches and leave negative comments are mostly illiterate and not worthy of my notice. Every site tends to have one idiot hanging around. IP ban them and move on.

    Girl- I don`t even know what to say. Who is this fool?

    I hate to say this but I`m kind of over Black men, especially the African-American variety. I hate to write that because my brother is amazing. The men in my family have been great to me. My father is a lovely man who doesn`t really understand me but who does ;)

    I just think it is best for my non-conformist traveling can`t be quiet Black woman self to keep my options completely open. As the fool who wrote the comment noted slavery. My mental, emotional, and spiritual slavery is over. I belong to me, My God, my mother, and my grandmothers. I belong to all of those entities by choice.

    Black women need to do what is necessary to secure their personal well-being and happiness by any means necessary.

    I put this comment up to generate some comments and boy it has! I get these emails fairly often. They go beyond the regular spam and are a bit more specifically hateful towards women or black women or people with big hair, or whatever category I fit into!

    Vomit! His comment did not even make sense! If we still lived in a time of slavery than interracial dating would not be permitted! And who is being the opressor calling black women whores??? But I realize that I am wasting thought. Yuck- it must feel like a bit of a rape to get a message like that! I wish we could all write him back! Well if your reading this jerko- not to worry! No woman: white or black is probably dating you! Whatever you called your girl is nothing more than a pathetic shadow of a woman who does not know the better.

    Ok I feel better- how bout everyone else...?
