My friend, Sharon always laughs at my love of arrogant men and I want to say she's wrong but ... I just love men with an inflated sense of themselves. (Oh, it will be the death of me!) This explains my love for the lovely (and quite skinny) Pharrell.
On Thursday, I went to see N*E*R*D and The Black Eyed Peas. (Spymob, N*E*R*D's back up band performed a few songs but Sweetback they ain't.) The show was fantastic!!!!! I think The Black Eyes Peas are a bit too cumbayah for me but they put on a great show. They take me back to the glorious days of b-boys that I miss so much. "Hey Mama" was their best song. And, they urged people to go out and vote. There's something about politically minded musicians that gets me everytime. I am not 100% sure how I feel about the new girl. I don't want to hate but she kind of gets on my nerves and I can't really see what she's doing there. I mean, I know every hip hop band needs a hot girl but ... I gotta think about her.
At first, I was only kind of into N*E*R*D*. Lauren and I were in search of the Asian guy but Sandy reminded us that Chad doesn't tour. (He’s married and has kiddies. What a guy!) It took a moment to get over that. But once "Rock Star" came on, I couldn't resist screaming, "I Love You Pharrell!" right along with the legions of young girls in the audience.
The thing that made me laugh was how many times Pharrell kept saying, "Thanks for supporting underground music!" OK. Vogue just did a spread on Pharrell and his new clothing line. Underground he ain't! This band may not be selling millions of records but when you can get Jay-Z to actually come and perform his solo at a small venue like Roseland, I think you're kind of big time.
I never knew how to spell "cumbayah"...thanks! I just bought "Elephunk" and I vote that Fergie is annoying.
