    Celebrity Sightings

    • Christina Applegate and Chole Sevigny
at the BWE 100th episode party. They are both so blonde. That color blonde that does not exist in real life but only with chemical enhancement. They're beautiful though.
    • Melba Moore
in the airport in Nairobi, Kenya! We smiled at each other over Nescafe (aka coffee).
    • Parker Posey
at Murray's Bagels. She looked really punk rock.
    • Jessica Lange and Sam Shephard
at A History of Violence at Cinema Village. They were so cute and followed us everywhere from the movies to Cedar Tavern and back to the movies. They probably thought we were following them.
    • Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kodjoe
pushing their baby down 13th Street. I was having a meeting at Cosi around the corner from my overcrowded office. I looked out the window and there they were. They stopped in front of my window and were doing the, who should take the baby conversation. I was trying to listen to the person talking to me but I could not and she was not the type of person who would understand my distraction by these celebs. They are both really attractive but almost too much so. His sneakers were new. His jeans were new. It was weird. I like imperfection.
    • Joshua Redman
running on 18th Street. I realized that I've seen him many times before and just did not realize it. He was smaller than I thought he's be but I guess most people are.
    • Patti Smith
which was not a big deal to me but my friend Marina apparently sees her all the time. This was her fourth sighting. I said she should say something like, "I see you everywhere. We should hang out." Marina wouldn't take the bait.
    • Leonardo DiCaprio
with Isha on our way to the PATH station on 9th Street and 6th Ave. He is very tall but as my friend says, one cheeseburger away from being fat. His bodyguard "subtely" was wearing a jogging suit next to him. I guess they exercise together. He wasn't so hot to me but another girl flipped out when she saw him so what do I know.
    • Sam Rockwell and Liev Schreiber
on New Year's Eve but you gotta buy me a few drinks to hear that story.
    • John Turturro
in Union Square looking tall and handsome. I’ve always had a strange little crush on him.

    The New Era of Obama

19kornblut184Many people have sent this article to me and thanks so much. I love Barack Obama. It has been a long time since I have said so. Let me remind y'all again.

I love how this article begins:

MOST politicians spend their careers working to overcome flaws. Then there are politicians like Barack Obama.

So charismatic that his greatest challenge has been trying to play down expectations during his first Senate term, Mr. Obama's enviable plight was neatly underlined at a black-tie dinner here last weekend, as President Bush facetiously tried to roast him.

"Senator Obama, I want to do a joke on you," the president told the audience at the annual Gridiron dinner, an event where politicians and the press mingle to make fun of one another. "But doing a joke on you is like doing a joke on the pope. Give me something to work with. Mispronounce something."

Keep in mind that President Bush had no idea who Obama was before his famous Democratic Convention speech in 2004. I remember a journalist asking him a question about Obama and Bush looking almost pale thinking the journalist said Osama. Barack must get that a lot.

What I find interesting about this article is what is not being said. It seems strange that the writer did not address race. In some ways, I can understand why she did not. Barack is a beloved by everyone and that has nothing to do with race really. He is intelligent. He has integrity. He is straightforward. I for one really miss the days of having politicians we can be proud of. As a person who has just travelled abroad, I can say that people in other countries hate Bush. Hate him. And I sick of people telling me so.

I do think the fact that Obama is black is something to mention though. Many people are looking for a voice that is not a 50-70 year old white male in office. It is why so many people have so much hope in Obama. Obama as "The Great Black Hope" is something that might later be his downfall. Addressing that fact would have made this article a bit more complex.

    I love him too.

My husband and I joke that he must be the Antichrist. They say the A.C. is supposed to be this leader with no ememies who everyone...EVERYONE will follw. If anybody's in the running, it's definitely him.

Of course he's not the antichirst, but he is SO good...too good to be true, really. I believe in his goodness though...Denzel's too.

He is great. It would be too strong a statement to say that he has single-handedly restored my faith in politics, but I will say this: if he wanted me to work on his campaign, I would do it in a heartbeat.

And once you read his book...I mean, he's almost too good to be true.

Now this man can rightfully earn African-Caucasian American. His father was a Kenyan, mother a white woman from Kansas. So, the way I look at him 50% African-50% Caucasian. So, why is he not described as white?
