Documentaries About Hurricane Katrina And Its Survivors
Dear Friends and Media Makers,
I am working on an article for Media Rights about the role that independent media makers can (and should) take in depicting Hurricane Katrina.
I am looking for filmmakers (young and old) working on films both long and short about any story having to do with the Hurricane and its survivors. I would love to interview three or four film makers about their works-in-progress and what drove them to start these pieces. Please send me names of pertinent filmmakers or organizations with any contact information you have. I am especially interested in getting some youth media and finding a film maker from New Orleans. Feel free to comment below!
Also, if you have any thoughts about what independent media makers' responsibility is in documenting this (in light of the controversy around mainstream media's depiction of Hurricane Katrina and its survivors), please let me know. Thank you so much and feel free to pass this email along to anyone you'd like.
